The Commish's Featured Matchup: Shark Attack vs Atomic Punks
The Atomic Punks are essentially a lock to make the playoffs - the Commish isn't good at math but will assume 24 points, with three weeks to go, is sufficient - and the Shark Attack are still circling the 12th playoff spot in the pool. For the top team in this matchup, the Punks really just have to coast on the performances of Toews, Skinner, and Whitney and bask in the point-scoring glory of Erik Karlsson. While they could still capture first in their division, all GM Mike needs is to keep his squad healthy for the post-season, and perhaps feed Ilya Bryzgalov some more Consistency Juice. The Punks are in the top-5 of league scoring, too, and should be battling for a spot in the finals. GM James's Shark Attack find themselves in the unenviable position of just barely out of the post-season, but again there's still time to push for a spot, where all bets are off. They'll really need better performances from Hemsky, Kunitz, and Brown to make it, though. With a couple of the Attack's roster players moving to new NHL clubs already, and potentially a couple more to come, some changes of scenery might boost the otherwise average squad into higher point totals. If the Wild hadn't entered a death spiral, goalie Backstrom might be helping this team a bit more too.
The Commish, writing this matchup late and already taking a peep at the score, thinks the Shark Attack will continue to nibble at a playoff spot and upset the Punks, 27-25.
The Commish's prediction record: 9-7
